Banksy Archive 01

As part of the Genus Bononiae cultural project, Fondazione Carisbo and Opera Laboratori present the exhibition Banksy Archive 01 – The School of Bristol 1983–2005, opening at Palazzo Fava on March 27, 2026. The exhibition offers an in-depth reconstruction of the origins and development of Banksy’s visual language within the cultural and artistic environment in which it first emerged.

Organized into thirty-two sections, the exhibition reconstructs and contextualizes Banksy’s work within its specific formative context, highlighting the role of the so-called “Bristol School”: a group of artists and key figures from the local scene—including Robert Del Naja, Tom Bingle, Felix Braun, Kyron Thomas, and Nick Walker—who helped shape the visual language and creative milieu from which iconic works such as Girl with Balloon and Love Is in the Air emerged.

Curated by Stefano Antonelli and Gianluca Marziani, the exhibition brings together more than three hundred works, original documents, and archival materials. Individual sections are entrusted to artists and cultural figures who shared formative experiences and collaborative projects with Banksy in Bristol during the 1990s.

The scientific direction of the exhibition—and the catalogue published by Sillabe—is by Giovanni Argan, under the supervision of an international scientific committee composed of leading scholars in the field of Banksy studies.
