The Genus Bononiae’s Educational Services propose to families a wide range of initiatives to spend together, parents and children, a special day at the Museum of the History of Bologna.
The itineraries that go through the museum’s rooms and the workshops held in the didactic space represent creative moments and experiences to share with others.

Celebrate your birthday at Palazzo Pepoli. Museum of the History of Bologna
Birthday parties held at the Museum can be a fun and creative experience that allows children to discover the history and traditions of their own city. Birthday kids (starting from 3 year-olds) can choose among five different proposals and then blow their candles in a reserved area by the Museum Café together with “Colazione da Bianca”. At the end of the party he/she will get a little gift from Genus Bononiae.

A guided tour where you can find out the origins of Bologna. During the laboratory it will be made a cardboard model of the Roman city in which every child can have fun and explore it with their own imagination: build a Basilica, design the square and so on ...

Your medieval town
During the visit all kids will feel Bolognese life during the Middle Ages to discover together what was like Bologna at the time of dames and knights. In the laboratory it will be built a cardboard model in which everyone will become a planner of the past! Together we will build the square, the Town Hall, the churches, the mills, the factories, the traders shops, the towers and the famous arcades of Bologna!

What's your blazon?
A visit to learn about the history of the most famous Bolognese families through their legendary symbols. A blast from the past of Bologna to discover together intrigue and legends, battles and romances! During the workshop each child will make their own personal coat of arms, to become a famous warrior or a great queen of the past.

In the Ulisse Aldrovandi's Dragon garden
A visit to learn about the great Ulisse Aldrovandi and his incredible inventions. During the workshop all the children will become ancient scientist like Ulisse and will invent and assemble, using a particular collage, its fantastic animal ... A rare species newly discovered!

22 Towers - 37 Kilometers of Porticos - 2000 Years of History
Animated visit in Palazzo Pepoli Discover Bologna accompanied by APA! An interactive map leads the children through the museum’s rooms playing, solving riddles and listening to stories. Step by step the participants are involved in different activities to become little experts of Bologna, called the Learned.

His Majesty the tortellino
Animated visit and workshop in Palazzo Pepoli A visit to the Museum to discover how food and the Bolognese cooking tradition are closely related to the city’s history: from the mortedella’s origin to medieval banquets, from the porchetta feast rigt up to the machine to produce tortellini. The workshop is dedicated to the king of traditional Bolognese cuisine, his Majesty the tortellino; with its shape of mysterious origins, the tortellino becomes for the occasion not only a food to eat, but also a yummy pasta sculpture to create. This activity is not suitable for children with celiac disease.

Sunday 19 February 2017 - After visiting the exhibition the students will be taken to a workshop where one of Hugo Pratt’s favourite themes will be explored: the fabulous coats of arms and flags that are a feature of the uniforms and vessels in his works. The students can each draw their own pirate flag or design a personal military badge. At the end they can be applied to special backing: will they be pirates or sailors…?

Sunday 22 January 2017 - A guided tour of the exhibition conducted by an actor with a pirates’ trunk containing objects connected with the characters in the story: Corto Maltese’s sailor’s hat, the monk’s tunic and Rasputin’s unkempt beard and scar. These will be used to invite the students to take on the roles of these mysterious individuals, revealing meanings and enigmas.

Notes from a journey

Sunday 18 December 2016 - After visiting the exhibition and exploring together the thousand seas and horizons navigated by Corto Maltese, the tour includes activities in a workshop where students can give vent to their creativeness through the use of specially designed educational material, and write their own notes from a journey, using their imaginations, just as Hugo Pratt did.

Sunday 13 November 2016 - A tour during which a professional actor plays the part of the famous adventurer to lead the group through the exhibition. Our sailor will not be alone, he will have the suitcase he took with him in his travels all over the world. At each stage all sorts of treasures and secrets will emerge from it, strange objects from far away islands used to explore the exhibition with him and listen to his stories and legends!
