On the 90th anniversary of the birth of Luciano De Vita, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna and Genus Bononiae. Museums in the city, in collaboration with ALI – Associazione Liberi Incisori, want to remember this artist with an exhibition scheduled from September 4 until October 4 2019 at the Library of art and history of San Giorgio in Poggiale (via Nazario Sauro 20 / 2, Bologna), where over 50 engravings will be exhibited that retrace his entire career.
The etchings in the exhibition, coming from the collection of a Bolognese collector, want to restore the whole evolutionary arc of his career and are divided into three sections that correspond to the three periods with which the criticism is now used to subdivide the work of Luciano De Vita: the academic period from 1951 to 1956, the informal period from 1957 to 1959 and the maturity period from 1960 to 1982.
Although Luciano De Vita has not received yet the right recognition he deserves, he is undoubtedly one of the greatest engravers of the twentieth century, the last interpreter of a secular tradition that in Bologna unites the Carraccis with Giorgio Morandi, passing by Giuseppe Maria Mitelli and Antonio Basoli.
