Fattori. Humanity translated into painting

Palazzo Fava , from 16/12/2022 to 01/05/2023

The exhibition Fattori. Humanity translated into painting, that opens to the public from 16 December 2022 to 1 May 2023 at Palazzo Fava. Palazzo delle Esposizioni, is created by Genus Bononiae in collaboration with the Matteucci Institute.

The exhibition curated by Claudia Fulgheri, Elisabetta Matteucci and Francesca Panconi, scholars of Fattori’s vast production, presents a selection of over 70 works from the production of the undisputed master of the macchia, an exceptional forerunner of 20th century modernity.

More than 50 years have passed since the last exhibition presented in Bologna on the great master from Livorno: in the meantime, in parallel with the progress of studies, interest in the Macchiaioli has continued to grow, also due to the important exhibitions dedicated to the Tuscan movement. The exhibition at Palazzo Fava aims to restore, through a temporal and thematic excursus in the author’s powerful production, his gaze at the same time in love and disenchanted with existence, revealing the unconscious poetry that, despite everything, it hides.

The sequence of works offers the visitor the opportunity to follow the entire creative evolution of Fattori’s painting, grouping the selection into thematic cores.

The catalogue, published by Skira Editore and edited by Claudia Fulgheri, Elisabetta Matteucci and Francesca Panconi, is enriched by a large iconographic apparatus which documents the figure of Fattori in all its aspects.
